Jim was born in Helmdon and went to the local school until he was
14. He left school to become a porter at Brackley station, he progressed
to signalman at Quainton, but he left the railway to work for the
Northern Aluminium Co. (now Alcoa) in Banbury. After the closure
of the Towcester to Banbury branch line he joined some of his friends
to work for Bush.Co to remove the track and fittings, after that
was finished he worked for Hinkin and Frewinof Banbury, two of the
major projects he worked on was the rebuilding of Banbury station
and a gymnasium and class rooms at a Towcester Grammar school. After
leaving Hinkins he worked for a short time at Groom and Tatersalls
Engineering at Towcester but he didn't settle there, he then went
to work for the Export Packing Co. at Chipping Warden, he worked
there for a long time, but when it began to run down he went to
work for the MOD at Bicester, he carried on there until he retired
in 1992.
Jim never married, but leaves his brother Reg and sister-in-law
Pat in Banbury and their children Jonathan and Louise. Jonathan
is a Dr. of Science in Manchester, he's married with two daughters
and Louise is married and lives in the Ribble Valley with 2 sons
and 2 daughters. Jim was very proud of them all. Jim's hobbies were
horse racing and darts (he was above average).
Jim was a member of the Helmdon Fellowship which he enjoyed especially
the outings, he also liked to go to the monthly Luncheon club at
the Reading Room. Jim will be sadly missed by his many friends.
