Crime Prevention Advice to Protect your Money
Across the financial industry some members of the public can become victims of fraudulent scams. These scams can be attempted in a number of different ways and may include being contacted at home by phone and being asked to divulge personal and banking data, or an instruction to generate payments in order to prevent fraud. Providing information or following instructions like this can lead to fraud being committed and result in loss of funds. If you are contacted at home and are not comfortable with the requests made, do not proceed, end the call and contact the bank, preferably from a different telephone, and report the issue to help protect your account.
Phishing emails are another well-known and recognised scam; they will generally appear to be from a legitimate company or financial institution. The email may encourage you to follow a link to a website which often looks similar to a legitimate site and you may be asked to input your login or personal details. The information you provide will be captured by a fraudster, and be used to access your accounts and make fraudulent transactions. If you receive any emails you believe to be phishing, do not respond or open any attachments.
Please report any fraudulent scams to ACTION FRAUD Tel: 0300 123 2040 or e-mail
