Families invited to go wild in Towcester this Easter holiday

Families and young people can become wildlife explorers during the Towcester Wild Day at the Tove Wetland Pocket Park on Thursday, 5 April.

This free event has been organised by South Northamptonshire Council (SNC) in partnership with, the Towcester Wildlife Group, Towcester Town Council and the Northants Biodiversity Records Centre (NBRC).

Between 11am and 3pm there will be a host of activities centred on a Bioblitz which will encourage people to become a wildlife explorer for the day as they find and identify as many different birds, bugs and plants as they can.

Cllr Karen Cooper, SNC’s portfolio holder for community engagement and wellbeing said: “For adults this will encourage them to enjoy the outdoors and walk more around our wonderful countryside.

“For children this could be the start of a life-long love and respect for wildlife.

“But most of all I hope as many people as possible bring along a picnic and enjoy a family day out with the whole community.”

Other activities include: pond dipping with Towcester Wildlife Group, den building with a Forest School leader, dig for treasure with Cotswold Archaeology, park games with the SNC Youth Activators, Art in the Park with SNC’s arts development officer, Family Walks with SNC’s sports development officer, as well as the SNC recycling team.

Wildlife experts will also be recording what they see and ecology consultants, Redkite, will be present to promote the management plan for Towcester Watermeadows which helps guide how it can be used in the future.
