            Get Active in Northamptonshire

The good news for a lot of people is that being active and trying to stay fit and healthy doesn’t mean you have to join a gym or play a sport.   Undertaking 30 minutes of brisk walking will help to increase your level of fitness, increase flexibility and core strength, regulate blood pressure, help in weight management and provide you with more confidence and energy.  Brisk walking means walking at a faster pace than a stroll, enough to raise your heart rate and make you feel slightly warmer and out of breath.  When undertaking any form of exercise or activity you should ensure that you are working at this level to gain any health benefit.

Regular health walks led by two volunteer walk leaders (one at the front and the other at the back of the group) are organised in every district throughout the County. Both walk leaders have been trained and will carry appropriate equipment.   Walks last between 30 minutes and an hour and are at a pace that suit you.  They also have a sociable element with a chance to have a cup of tea or coffee at the end of the walk which is a good way to meet new people.

The easiest way to find a walk near to you is to visit the WHI website and use the postcode finder on their website www.whi.org.uk/
