Crafts In Action
At the weekend there was celebration of Helmdon's talented
villagers at a special crafts day.
The event called Crafts In Action was held on Saturday, November
9 and attracted many people and acted as a showcase for villager's
creative skills.
As part of the day held at St Mary Magdalene Church, there
were displays and practical demonstrations of a number of
crafts including photography, calligraphy, ceramics, jewellery,
bread making and needlework.
The event was organised by three friends in the village to
offer something a little different for Helmdon.
One of the organisers, Louise Stothard, said there was a steady
flow of people all day and the event raised £90 for
charity, to be split between the church and Debra, an organisation
for children born with genetic skin complaints.
She adds it was also a busy day for the Women's Institute
who provided refreshments and prepared 50 ploughmen's lunches.
Due to the success organisers are considering holding another
crafts event but probably in two years time.
