Club's Salute to founder members

Founder members of Helmdon Women's club returned to the village last week to celebrate the group's 35th anniversary.

Sixty-four members, past and present, were joined by six original members - Ann Dakkoun, Gwen Bentley, Dawn Law, Jenny Saunders, Susan Lidgley and Judy Cairns - for a dinner in the village Reading Room.

The Women's Club was founded in 1970 as Helmdon Young Wives and Mothers' Club.

The group has raised funds for many good causes including the Gulf War Red Cross Appeal and the Asian Tsunami Appeal.
