A knowledge of comedian Rowan Atkinson paid dividends to a Brackley (Helmdon) family who scooped a day out in Oxford.

The Watsons won first prize in a competition to promote the city.

They named Rowan Atkinson as the comedian who studied at Oxford.

They also correctly identified one of the colleges – Worcester.

The competition was on 90,000 leaflets about Oxford at Christmas, distributed by Oxford City Centre Management and the private sector.

The Watsons (Dad John, Mum Gill, Tom Watson aged nine, and Claire aged six) won a family ticket to the Oxford Playhouse, a family ticket to The Oxford Story and a family meal at The Randolph Hotel in the city.
