CARNIVAL
Saturday, September 9th saw Helmdon’s annual carnival take place, although a somewhat blustery day, this did nothing to mar the enthusiasm of all the organisations which entered floats.
The theme of this year’s carnival was Walt Disney, and the floats really followed the theme. There were floats depicting Jungle Book, Peter Pan, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and 101 Dalmations.
The winner of the junior float section were the Friends of Helmdon School with 101 Dalmations. The adult winners were Bridge Players, whose theme was Peter Pan. The individual entry was won by Minnie Mouse.
Several village organisations hosted stalls which were well frequented during the afternoon. There was also a display of vintage motor cycles.
Unfortunately the parachute drop which had been planned for the afternoon was called off due to the weather conditions. This caused disappointment to the mums and tots group who had arranged a sponsored Teddy parachute drop. They did however, manage to save the day by putting in an extra, besides having their junior tombola, guess the Teddy’s names, which was James, they also had one of the dads dressed in a Teddy Bear costume and had a guess the weight of the Teddy, the winner of that was Sally Griffiths. That particular Teddy Bear would like to thank everyone who had a go at guessing his weight and to say that 95% of those were very kind in guessing below what the actual weight was The actual weight was 14st. 1lb.
Thanks go to Mr and Mrs Cernik who opened this year’s carnival.
