HOMES PLAN FOR STATION

An application to build 16 houses and a pocket park on land at the old railway station in Helmdon has been received by South Northamptonshire District Council.

Planning permission for residential and industrial purposes was refused in 1989 due to the conservation value of the site.

The site falls outside the village confines and is of special scientific interest.

Dave Johnson, principle planning officer for South Northants Council, said: “It is fair to say that we are unlikely to view the proposals favorably as the land is open countryside and is of conservation value.

“The proposals go to the committee in early August and we have consulted English Nature and Northants Wildlife Trust for their opinions.

“We are also waiting to hear the views of local residents and the Parish Council”.

Probably a Banbury or Brackley newspaper.
