VILLAGE CARNIVAL FUN

Cowgirls and Indians were spotted in Helmdon on Bank Holiday Monday celebrating the village carnival.

Crowds turned up in the wild-west format fun day and enjoyed novelty entertainments including a bucking bronco, pony rides and a tug of war.

The event made between £2,000 and £3,000 for charities in the area including the sports club, the reading room and Brackley Cottage hospital.

Chair of the Carnival committee Michael Ayres said: “Everybody said it’s the best we have ever had.  The weather was good and I would think the numbers were better than normal - the field was full of people.”
