VILLAGER’S PROVE THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME

Helmdon residents turned out in force for the unveiling of a plaque to commemorate the village winning the title, “Village of the Year” in the Northamtonshire ACRE competition.

The village won the award last month after claiming first prize in their category for villages with 400 to 900 residents.

Lyndsey Glassett said:  “It was absolutely brilliant.  It was very successful and more than 150 people turned out on VILLAGER Saturday lunchtime, it was lovely and the rain held off.”

After the wooden sign proclaiming Helmdon Village of the year for 1996 was unveiled, residents were treated to a reception at Helmdon County  primary School.

Pictured celebrating the village’s news is 93 year old Alice Hearne (centre) who bas raised  more than £1,000 for Helmdon Chapel, with some of the village children.
