Record Entries for Flower and Produce Show

With more than 220 entries, the annual Flower and Produce Show, displayed an impressive range of gardening, preserve making and baking skills. The glorious bank holiday weather attracted a big crowd of supporters which, with generous sponsorship by Material Change Ltd, enabled a record £450 to be raised for local charities and the Gardening Club.

Winners

The Reardon Cup for the best garden display was won by Michael Ayres, who also took the Duncombe Cup in the fruit category.  Rex Jessett, once again retained both the Lidgely Cup for the highest score in the vegetable category and the Jack Ayres Shield for the best overall score. In a tight competition, Juliet Corston took the Potter Vase for the best performance in the flower category, while Bill Elkington was the winner of the Bloomer Cup for the best individual flower entry. In the produce category Enid Kebble and Judith Elkington produced a dead heat and will share the Rose Bowl. 

Banners

A generous grant from the Parish Council enabled new promotional banners, based on an original painting by local artist Paul Sandilands, to be made and helped attract the record support for the show.
